Press release: Ornamo Design Christmas online – the virtual design department store will open on 24 November
The major event for Finnish design and art handiworks, Ornamo Design Christmas, will take place this year online from 24 November to 24 December. Over 130 diverse online shops will be featured.
With long traditions, Ornamo Design Christmas is a highly anticipated annual design sales event. Customers interested in environmental issues, local products and quality have embraced the event. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s Design Christmas event will introduce design shops online as hosting the traditional public event at Cable Factory in Helsinki is impossible.
“For Christmas presents, many Finns prefer sustainably produced, long-lasting articles and clothes over mass-produced items, but it is very hard to find small online shops if you are not already familiar with them. We have launched a virtual department store called Finnish Designers, where you can discover professional design products easily in one place. A selection of quality products such as this is not available anywhere else,” says Petra Ilonen, Project Manager of Design Christmas.
Responsibly produced Christmas presents online
Design professionals pay particular attention to the origins of the raw materials for their products, and they are familiar with the production chain of industrial design and various handicraft methods. Many of the products, such as ceramic and glass items, are hand-made from start to finish. The product selections contain what are known as zero-waste clothes, where fabric waste is utilized in the products, jewelry made from recycled silver and woolen products made from finnsheep wool. Many of the online shops offer discounted items during the event. The stories of the brands and products participating in the campaign are available every day on the Facebook and Instagram accounts of @finnishdesigners.
The virtual department store has a large selection of premium quality Finnish design products. Over 140 online shops are participating in the service, and their product selections range from jewelry and clothing, ceramics and glass, lamps and other home items and textiles to unique works of art.
