Aalto School of Arts, Design and Architecture, Department of Design, opens positions for two post-doctoral researchers in the area of experience research:
Post-doctoral researcher, Experiences and creative economy
The post-doctoral researcher will support the Creative Economy initiative of the Finnish government by studying means for the Finnish industry to move from problem-driven to human experience -driven design. The candidate can propose the exact focus for the target industry, which can include ICT, engineering, or other product/service development companies currently utilizing problem-driven design. Suitable research approaches can include Action Research and Research for Design. The work also includes practical collaboration facilitation as part of the Aalto Experience Platform operations.
A suitable candidate has a doctoral degree, prior experience on research collaboration with company clients and thorough understanding on experience-driven design (positive design, possibility-driven design). She/he understands both the big picture as well as the daily practices regarding the target industry, is able and willing to not only write high-quality academic publications but also roll up the sleeves when help is needed in organizing events, facilitating collaboration or disseminating the research results to general public. Prior track record in applying research funding, work experience in creative industry, and Finnish language skills are considered a plus.
The contract period for this position is full-time 1.6.2019-31.12.2020, continuing as part-time in 2021. However, the goal is to apply for research funding around this theme to allow full-time work also beyond 2020.
Post-doctoral researcher, Systemic service design
This position is funded by two big national, industry-driven research programmes targeting at developing new business opportunities from data-intensive services. The post-doctoral researcher will plan and conduct research on systemic design of data-intensive services in a B2B business ecosystem. The systems approach is used to conceptualize a service system for a particular B2B ecosystem rather than individual services. The work includes collaboration with and guidance of the doctoral candidates who are working in the same projects, and may include facilitation of ecosystem formation via co-design workshops or similar methods used in systemic service design.
A successful candidate has a doctoral degree in (service) design or another relevant field, prior experience on research collaboration with company clients, and thorough understanding on service business and/or systemic design. Prior knowledge on data-intensive services, Industry 4.0, and B2B industry is beneficial, and Finnish language skills are considered a plus.
The contract period for this full-time position is 1.8.2019-30.6.2021, or as agreed.
