KOKO unemployment fund – how to join during the summer!

The unemployment fund protects your income if you are unemployed or laid off. Find out how to join during the summer!

Through Ornamo, you can join the Higher Education Unemployment Fund KOKO. However, summer brings some changes to joining the KOKO fund. It’s important to take care of your unemployment security in advance, because you can only join an unemployment fund if you are in paid employment. Students can also join an unemployment fund, for example, when working summer or part-time jobs.

How do I join the KOKO fund in the summer? 

During the period of 30.6.-8.8.2025 we recommend that you apply for direct KOKO membership by filling out the KOKO membership application form. You can find the application on the KOKO Unemployment Fund website. Please remember to check the terms and conditions to see whether you can apply for the membership or not. The KOKO fund will charge you a membership fee.

Can I obtain membership through Ornamo in the future? 

Yes you can. We can then transfer you from direct KOKO member to Ornamo-KOKO-member for example at the turn of the year 2025-2026 and Ornamo will then invoice you the 2026 KOKO membership fee. Please send your request for transferring you to Ornamo-KOKO-member to office@ornamo.fi once your KOKO membership is valid.

What else does the summer schedule affect? 

Requests for termination or other changes to KOKO membership which have been emailed to us during 30.6.-8.8.2025 will be handled at the beginning of week 33.
