Päivi Tahkokallio Elected Vice-President of BEDA –The Bureau of European Design Associations

Today in Vilnius, BEDA – The Bureau of European Design Associations unanimously elected Päivi Tahkokallio, the Vice-President of the Finnish Association of Designers Ornamo to be its new Vice-President. She will serve in this capacity from 2017 to 2019, and as the President of the bureau in 2019 and 2020.

BEDA promotes the use of design in Europe as part of European industrial and innovation policy and a creative Europe. Founded in 1969, BEDA has 46 member organisations representing 25 countries, and a total of approximately 400,000 designers. As a member body of BEDA, the Finnish Association of Designers Ornamo is actively involved in European discussion and the exchange of ideas concerning design.

Päivi Tahkokallio has pursued a long career in design, focusing in recent years on the applications of design in developing the Arctic region, among other issues. Based in Rovaniemi in North Finland, her firm, Tahkokallio Design+, is an expert body in strategic design. Tahkokallio has served in several important positions of trust in her field both in Finland and internationally. She was appointed Vice-President of Ornamo in 2016.
