Join us in shaping the future by standing for election to Ornamo’s Board! As an Ornamo member, you can influence the direction the field is heading and help shape the expertise, impact and shared voice we need in our shared journey.
Board work is about more than decision-making: a position on the Board is an opportunity to bring your own perspective to the table, gain a deeper understanding of an increasingly diverse design field, and build networks with people across the industry and its stakeholders. At the same time, you can influence the role design will play in Finnish society and working life in the future.
We are looking for new perspectives and expertise
We want people on the Board who are inspired by the future of design and want to work together to shape it.
This time, we are particularly looking for people with experience in:
- International work and operating environments – an understanding of international markets, networks and the operating environment of the design field.
- Design work and hands-on design or art practice – up-to-date experience of working in design and an understanding of the everyday realities of the field.
- Business and commercialisation in design companies – an understanding of how design businesses are grown, renewed and internationalised, and how design can help clients develop and grow their own businesses. In particular, we are looking for perspectives on the business operations of a larger design agency and on being an employer.
- The education sector – perspectives on design education, competence development, and the connection between education and working life.

Whose terms are ending?
The two-year Board terms of Heidi Paavilainen, head of the Master’s Programme in Design and Fashion at Aalto University, artist Reetta Hiltunen, creative director Hanna-Kaarina Heikkilä, designer Zeynep Falay and service designer Linda Vanni will end in 2026.
Could I stand for election?
All full members whose membership fee has been paid by 23 September are eligible to stand for election. Board members will be elected in e-elections held before the Autumn General Meeting on 18 November 2026.
The same members are also entitled to vote in the election. Please make sure your membership fee is paid on time.

You can also influence the composition of the Board
As an Ornamo member, you have a say in who will serve on the Board during the next term. At the Autumn General Meeting, members will once again elect new members to Ornamo’s multidisciplinary Board.
Five Board positions will open for Ornamo’s next two-year term, beginning on 1 January 2027.
Board members will be elected in e-elections held before the Autumn General Meeting. All full members whose membership fee has been paid by 23 September are entitled to vote. Please make sure your membership fee is paid on time.
See you at the Autumn General Meeting
Ornamo’s Autumn General Meeting will take place on 18 November 2026. The venue will be announced later. At the meeting, the 2027 action plan and budget will be approved, auditors will be appointed, and membership fees will be decided. The results of the Board election will also be confirmed.
