Open call for Designers Now, a section in Ornamo’s annual publication

Ornamo’s annual publication is back

The previous edition came out in 2023. In spring 2027 the annual publication returns as a printed magazine with a new name: Finnish Designers.

Finnish Designers presents the current state of Finnish design through the members of Ornamo and inspiring stories on what is happening in the field.

In times like these, a printed magazine is a statement of values. At a time when more content is created than ever before and consumed quickly, we want to be part of a publishing culture that aims to stand the test of time, both in its content and as a physical object. Finnish Designers will tell the story of 2027 long after the year itself has passed.

What is Designers Now?

Designers Now is the section that opens the magazine. It is a strongly visual image gallery offering an overview of current Finnish designers, artists and makers and their work, made for browsing. Each work is presented with one image and a short text. Together they show how broad and diverse the field of design is. We hope to receive submissions from many different fields, for example technology, service design and the arts.

What we ask for

• An image (if you have options, feel free to send several and we will choose the one that works best for this purpose)
• Credits: title of the work, year, designers, photographer and materials, if relevant
• A description of the work, approx. 400 characters including spaces

Image requirements

The image will be published in print, so it must be print quality: at least 300 dpi at print size. Accepted file formats are jpg, png, tiff tai pdf. A ready-to-use image is an important criterion for taking part.

Image rights

Applicants are responsible for holding the rights to publish the image and for having the photographer’s permission. The image may be used, with credits, in Finnish Designers magazine and in social media content and marketing related to the magazine.

Selection

Participants must be members of Ornamo. The selection is based on timeliness, visual quality and a balanced whole. The editorial team may lightly edit the texts so that they work together. All applicants will be notified of the outcome in January 2027.
