An enduring favourite with shoppers, this year’s Ornamo Design Christmas event will be given a new twist with the introduction of international special guests.

To mark Estonia’s 100 years of independence, an invitation has been extended to artists and designers across Estonia to take part in this year’s Ornamo Design Christmas event.

“Until now, this event has been exclusively about promoting Finnish design, and this is the first time that we’ve decided to invite international guests. Estonia’s centenary year presented us with the opportunity to collaborate with the Estonian Design Centre. In turn, Finnish designers will also have the opportunity to take part in a design market taking place in Tallinn in December,” Ornamo’s Project Manager Petra Ilonen explains.

Over the years, the Ornamo Design Christmas event has established a reputation for cutting edge art and design, where shoppers can make purchases knowing that they are buying authentic quality wares. It is the largest event of its kind in Finland, attracting an estimated 20,000 visitors in 2017. An annual event, it has proved a huge draw for locals, visitors and the media alike.

This year’s Ornamo Design Christmas will take place 7–9 December. The venue in Helsinki’s Cable Factory is centrally located and easy to reach by metro, bus, tram and on foot.

The event will be a showcase for art, craft and design including textiles, prints, fashion and more, created by some of Finland’s best-known designers and makers, promising newcomers and design students.

The event offers capacity for around 270 sellers, with 30 stalls set aside for Estonian exhibitors. If you are interested in taking part, please act fast to secure your place as stalls will be allocated on a strict first-come-first-served basis.

In order to qualify as an exhibitor at the event, you will need to have a higher education degree in a relevant design subject. All applicants will be individually approved by Ornamo. Ornamo members will be offered priority booking, with non-members invited to apply from August.

“We will be opening up applications to our Estonian colleagues and Ornamo members on 7 June.  All Estonian exhibitors will be offered the Ornamo member discount, which represents fantastic value for money,” Ilonen says.
