Design is a driver for change in society and sustainable development. It has a key role in industrial and service production. Design thinking and design methods support innovativeness, accelerate product development processes and thus create intangible capital. Ornamo’s Finnish Design Sector’s Policy Recommendations for 2019–2024 is focused on three themes:

  1. The competitiveness of the European Union is founded on intangible value.
  2. Design takes responsibility for the environment and people.
  3. Knowledge-intensive competitiveness rises from a fair working life.

Ornamo’s position paper includes recommendations for Finnish municipalities, the Finnish state and the European Union in order to fully implement design in all sectors of governance in Europe.
