The board members of Ornamo are design and art professionals, who harness their diverse expertise to represent and promote the interests of Ornamo members.
Helena Aalto
Interior Architect SIO, TaM
Helena Aalto has spent most of her design career working as a commercial interior designer. A long-standing interior architect, she wants to contribute to the future of the design industry, especially from the perspective of SIO, Ornamo’s member organisation, so that the profession can contribute to meeting the challenges of sustainable development.
Zeynep Falay von Flittner
Service Designer, Founder of Zeynep Consulting Oy
The founder of Falay Transition Design Collective is a pioneer of transformational design, an advocate of systems thinking and a trailblazer in design for sustainability. He brings over 20 years of experience and expertise in UX design and service design to Ornamo’s board. Zeynep is passionate about promoting Finnish design expertise internationally, focusing on creating sustainable solutions and increasing the global impact of Finnish design expertise.
Hanna-Kaarina Heikkilä, Vice-Chair
Creative Director, Studio Finna. Master of Arts (Aalto University) and Bachelor of Engineering (Tampere University of Technology)
Hanna-Kaarina Heikkilä has worked in architecture and design both abroad and in Finland. In addition to her work, she works on design education at the Department of Design at Aalto University. Heikkilä’s ambition is to promote the use of design in a wide range of sectors of society. At Ornamo, she wants to be involved in promoting the needs of design entrepreneurs and the younger generation of designers.
Reetta Hiltunen
Graphic artist and pattern designer, KuM
Reetta Hiltunen is a multidisciplinary artist and creative entrepreneur. In her board work, Reetta wants to support Ornamo, which develops sustainability and responsibility in the industry through its member services and activities. Ornamo is close to Reeta’s heart as a dialogue between multidisciplinary design and art.
Ilkka Kettunen
Industrial Designer, TaT
Ilkka is a senior lecturer at Savonia University of Applied Sciences. He brings to the board of Ornamo a strong vision of design education, research and practice in the periphery. Ilka’s research interests are related to autoethnography, early stage product development and organisational design.
Lauriina Markkula, Student Member
Contemporary Design, Aalto University
As a student representative on the Ornamo board, I want to bring the voice of students to the board and strengthen their role in the community. Through my participation, I want to promote the students’ sense of belonging to a community that actively supports and promotes their professional development both during their studies and on the eve of graduation.
Tytti-Lotta Ojala
Director, LAB Institute of Design and Fine Arts
Tytti-Lotta is a multidisciplinary creative and strategist with her career built on design thinking for business growth, sustainability, innovations and branding. She believes that the world needs the voice of designers more than ever, and she wishes to utilize it as a member of Ornamo’s board, developing the community into an even stronger and more visible influencer in our society and networks.
Heidi Paavilainen, Vice-Chair
Head of the Design and Fashion Programme, Lecturer in General Studies in Design, TaT
Heidi brings to the Board a multidisciplinary approach to education and research. She is keen to continue Ornamo’s work on the sustainability revolution and to strengthen the voice of professionals at different stages of their careers at Ornamo. Heidi believes that the design industry is moving in the right direction: designing services, strategies and operations has become a natural part of design work. The role of the industrial designer is becoming even more important as the conditions for sustainable development become clearer. Interpretative and experimental projects are driving culture and research forward.
Katja Soini, Chairperson of the board
Industrial Designer, TaT (Aalto University)
Strategy and Sustainability Director, AFRY Infrastructure FinlandKatja has long experience in strategic design assignments. An industrial designer and Doctor of Arts, she brings to Ornamo a strong interest and expertise in human-centred design thinking in both the design field and the real estate and construction sector. Through her work on the board, Katja wants to develop Ornamo into a more responsible and impactful player: her aim is to strengthen the role of designers as drivers of the sustainability revolution. Katja is the first chair in Ornamo’s history to have served two terms as a trustee.
Linda Vanni
Service Designer, TaM I Metsähallitus
Linda is a versatile designer with extensive experience in the development of services, spaces and cities. She is also active in the Environmental Designers Network. Linda believes that designers can be at the forefront of promoting sustainability in collaboration with experts from different fields. Linda represents a new generation of designers and wants to increase multi-professional and cross-sectoral interaction. She wants to be part of building Ornamo into a multi-voiced and ever-evolving community that actively empowers all designers in different parts of society.
